Below is a brief review of Iron Designer from our friends at Phooey Architects. You’ll just have to ask them what exactly this catastrophic breakdown in communication actually entailed…..
As we descended down the steps at BMW Edge and onto centre stage, the scene before us ignited our senses and got the well lubricated creative thoughts flowing. Masked with our ‘PHOOEY’ glasses the team speculated about what could emerge from these raw ingredients. However the nature of the design process is unpredictable and when under pressure decisions and directions can change rapidly. The key ingredients were to be delivered as three words which were to be combined and visually interpreted in a creation within 20 minutes. ‘KISS – MOSCOW- SOLAR’ were served up.
In true glam rock style PHOOEY proceeded to deliver a performance that Gene Simmons would have appreciated. When the team captain decided to break away from the group and go solo the two remaining team members decided to call in some extras. As the minutes flew by highly skilled craftspeople began to sculpt and mould alfoil and duct tape around the human figure to produce an abstracted ‘KISS’ inspired suit designed to capture solar energy while partying through the long days and short night hours of the Moscow summer. Meanwhile the team leader was working with blue paint and the judges to reinvent performance art. What emerged after 20 minutes was the result of a catastrophic breakdown in communication.
So in conclusion all we want to say about our design process is that we just wanted to ‘rock ‘n’ roll all night and party everyday’.
Looking forward to Iron Designer 2010!
