Alison Farrar
Bachelor of Environments Alumni: Landscape Management

I chose the Bachelor of Environments because I liked the interdisciplinary approach of the course and felt it would be really beneficial to gain an understanding of the different perspectives taken by several disciplines.

I decided to major in Landscape Management because I have always been interested in natural resource management and felt this major would give great insight into both the ecological and social requirements for effect resource management.

My favourite subjects were Human Behaviour and the
Environment – this subject was very intellectually stimulating and had a great mix of interactive lectures, field trips and interesting assignments. Leave to Landscape’- I really enjoyed this subject for the prac classes, field trips and interesting content.

To me, studying at the University of Melbourne meant I was learning from inspiring and dedicated staff and there was rarely a dull moment in social life with clubs and societies.

My advice to new students is take advantage of the diversity of subjects to choose from, especially in first and second year, because it really broadens your perspective and understanding of other disciplines

I am looking forward to trying a variety of work through international internships.

The BEnvs helped prepare me for a wider perspective of thinking

Five words that sum me up are I like a good laugh

ALISON IS NOW DOING GRADUATE STUDY

I chose to do the Honours degree in Landscape Management because it catered for my wide interest range

It’s different studying at graduate level because you see how all your accumulated knowledge actually applies in the real world

In my Honours I am looking forward to the fieldwork component.

What inspires you at Uni? Academic staff and the other students.
