Bachelor of Environments: Landscape Architecture
I chose the Bachelor of Environments because I was interested in the subjects offered without knowing what particular major I was interested in. The Bachelor of Environments gave me the flexibility to discover landscape architecture as a profession.
I decided to major in Landscape Architecture. I initially wanted to major in Environmental Engineering, however after my first year I started taking design oriented subjects and enjoyed the challenge of design. Landscape architecture has challenged me to create aesthetic, sustainable, and biodiverse environments with a social conscious.
My favourite subjects were the design studios. Although they are a huge amount of work, working towards a final design outcome of your own making is hugely rewarding and satisfying to have created something from nothing.
My advice to new students is: subject variety is key. You may have your heart set on a major but it is really rewarding to broaden your professional scope into many other disciplines.
I am looking forward to eventually working overseas and potentially opening my own firm.
The BEnvs helped prepare me for real interdisciplinary projects that require a holistic approach to the task at hand.
Five words that sum me up are: Determined, Passionate, Creative, Spontaneous, Crazy.
My personal motto is: walk backwards into the future, keeping your eyes on the past.
