Bachelor of Environments: Property
I chose the Bachelor of Environments because I was tossing up between studying architecture or urban planning but couldn’t decide. I thought Environments would be the perfect degree to experience both and hopefully make a more informed decision.
I decided to major in Property because I found the subjects interesting and it crossed over a lot with planning.
My favourite subject was Property Analysis Studio. Up until doing this subject I was a little unsure as to what I had actually learnt over the past 3 years of the course. This subject allowed us to consolidate everything we’d learnt and put it into real world practice.
To me, studying at the University of Melbourne meant that I could move away from Canberra! The course suited what I wanted to do and were far better than anything offered in Canberra which meant I was able to come to Melbourne and experience uni life in a new city.
My advice to new students is learn how to reference as soon as possible and do it! It will save you a lot of time in the end!
I am looking forward to being the big boss of my own urban planning consultancy firm.
The BEnvs helped prepare me for life’s unknowns.
Five words that sum me up are no life, no friends, degree.
My personal motto is Hakuna Matata
GRACE IS NOW DOING GRADUATE STUDY
I chose to do graduate study in Urban Planning because I’m still unsure what I want to do career wise and planning is broad degree related to my major in property so will hopefully open up a variety of doors in the built environment industry.
It’s different studying at graduate level because there’s so much more work! It’s a huge jump from Environments. But on the plus side it’s a lot easier to make friends as you’re in almost all your classes together.
In my Masters I am looking forward to an internship somewhere along the line and hopefully the property development travelling studio to SE Asia.
What inspires you at Uni? That all my hard work will pay off and one day I won’t have to be a poor uni student anymore.
