Bachelor of Environments: Architecture
I chose the Bachelor of Environments because it offered me a range of course majors. At the time of graduating from VCE I wasn’t sure which course/major I wanted go with and initially thought I would go toward being a Civil Engineer. The first year of BEnvs allowed me to ‘suss out’ which major I enjoyed and ultimately ended up going with the Architecture major.
I decided to major in Architecture because I really enjoyed designing during my first year. they were amongst my best subjects and became a childhood dream which I never thought would have been possible.
My favourite subjects were the Architecture Design Studios. They allowed us to really explore and investigate spatial qualities, functions and design. The nature of the Studios provoked us to create new outcomes and sometimes unforeseen spatial outcomes.
To me, studying at the University of Melbourne meant a richer and diverse university life with various options in my course.
My advice to new students is to take the opportunity in first year to really discover what major suits you. Don’t just keep looking towards one fixed goal but rather what you enjoy and therefore also do well.
I am looking forward to becoming a registered architect in Australia in the near future and also graduating from my Masters of Architecture at The University of Melbourne.
The BEnvs helped prepare me for architectural design and industry requirements/skills to a certain degree.
Five words that sum me up are: Tenacious, obsessive, serious, competitive, funny.
My personal motto is just do it!
QINLAND IS NOW DOING GRADUATE STUDY
I chose to do graduate study in Architecture because I felt that there was so much more to learn and that stopping at the undergraduate level was not enough for future work in the industry.
It’s different studying at graduate level because the culture is more free and you get to choose your own studio, so you can really go towards what specific field of architectural work you’re after. Workload wise it’s a lot more work than previous!
In my Masters I am looking forward to enjoying my time as a student and meet some great people and friends along the way.
What inspires you at Uni? My desire to become a great architect.
