Bachelor of Environments: Property
I chose the Bachelor of Environments because the subjects and majors offered were aligned with my career aspirations and interests. I believed the course was one that was best suited towards my potential and yet provided enough flexibility for me to explore other areas.
I decided to major in Property because I developed an interest in property investment and management and began to see myself working in the corporate world in the future. I found I enjoyed property because of the wide spectrum of areas in which it involves, such as law, finance, construction, sustainability, design and economics.
My favourite subjects were Property Resource Analysis and Property Analysis Studio because they were challenging subjects which I think really forced me to develop and learn much more. The assessments imitated real-world projects which I think is useful for when I complete my studies.
To me, studying at the University of Melbourne meant an opportunity to learn and develop in a well-established and reputable university that offered a wider range of subjects with the options to study breadth subjects.
My advice to new students is enjoy your university years because they go quickly. Ask lots of questions and make the best out of every situation.
I am looking forward to completing my postgraduate studies, doing some travel and entering the professional workforce, perhaps in property fund management or development.
The BEnvs helped prepare me for some of the real-world challenges I can expect to face at the completion of my studies and gave me skills that I can apply in the future.
Five words that sum me up are determined, hard-working, meticulous, brunch & caffeine
My personal motto is Be Brave
STEPHANIE IS NOW DOING GRADUATE STUDY
I chose to do graduate study in Finance because it complements my property degree and is useful to have. Also, it provides a wider window of opportunity, even in the property industry. It was always my intention to do a double degree, and under the Melbourne Model, this was the most appropriate way of doing it.
Its different studying at graduate level because it is more independent study and industry focused. The classes are more open to your interpretation and input, and really encourage you to build up new skills.
In my Masters I am looking forward to perhaps doing exchange for a semester and meeting new people as well as being more involved in University and Course activities.
What inspires you at Uni? My future goals and aspirations (where I see myself in 5-10 years), others around me and the encouragement from my family.
